Two Philadelphia Starbucks Locations Close This Weekend, Part of a 250-Store National Cut

Starbucks is closing its 2201 South Street and 1018 N 2nd Street locations on September 28, part of roughly 250 stores the company is shuttering across North America the week of September 25. A third closing sits just across the river at 4380 Route 130 in Willingboro. Nationally that's about 1% of Starbucks' 18,000-plus North American stores. Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams framed the list as locations where the company doesn't see a path to consistently delivering the experience it wants, or to acceptable financial performance.

Six Philadelphia Starbucks locations closed in 2025. This week's cut lands on top of that, and it's hitting two corridors that see real daily foot traffic: South Street and the 2nd Street stretch through Northern Liberties. A Starbucks box comes with plumbing, electrical and a drive-up or walk-up customer base already built in, exactly what an independent coffee shop or fast casual operator looks for when they don't want to gut a cold shell.

Twenty of the 250 closing locations nationwide are unionized, which is drawing pushback from labor reps calling the cuts a betrayal of what customers and workers valued in those stores. For a landlord on either Philadelphia address, that noise matters less than the calendar. These boxes go dark September 28, and a built-out coffee shop space on a corridor like South Street or 2nd Street won't sit empty long once it's actually listed.
