Taco Heart Is Filling the Hole Di Bruno Bros Left at Suburban Square

South Philly's breakfast-taco shop is opening a stall inside the Ardmore Farmers Market this week, in space that sat empty after Di Bruno Brothers pulled out of the location.

Taco Heart, Nano Wheedan's South Philadelphia breakfast-taco shop, is set to open October 5 at the Ardmore Farmers Market inside Suburban Square, at 120 Coulter Avenue. Large swaths of that market sat vacant earlier this year after Di Bruno Brothers shuttered multiple locations, including its outpost right there in Ardmore.

A high-profile tenant pulling out of a market hall doesn't have to mean the hall loses momentum. The market came to Wheedan rather than the other way around, offering a fully built kitchen and the foot traffic Suburban Square already pulls. That's the fastest way to backfill a food-hall vacancy: find an operator who already has a following and hand them a kitchen that's ready to cook in, instead of re-marketing the stall cold.

For anyone holding stall or kiosk space in a food hall or market concept in the suburbs, this is the template. A known local name with a built-in audience gets you back to full faster than chasing a brand-name grocer who might pull out again in two years.

Why it matters

A name-brand grocer's exit from a food hall got backfilled in months by a known local operator instead of sitting vacant. Chase the operator with a following over the next big name.
