Urban Village Brewing's Owners Are Building a Second Bar From Scratch in Williamstown

Dave and Tara Goldman are putting a 5,000 square foot pub on the site of the old Williamstown library, with groundbreaking set for December and a fall 2027 opening.

Dave and Tara Goldman, who own Urban Village Brewing Co. in Northern Liberties, are building a second concept at 306 South Main Street in Williamstown, Gloucester County. Goldie's is a ground-up project on the former site of the town's public library, at Main and Hall Streets.

The brick building comes in just over 5,000 square feet: a 60-seat bar area, a dining room of about the same size, an upstairs mezzanine with its own small bar and room for 60 more, and a 32-seat front porch. Groundbreaking is scheduled for December, with the Goldmans hoping to open by fall 2027.

A ground-up build on a former municipal site is a different bet than taking over a vacant storefront. The Goldmans are paying for exactly the layout they want instead of negotiating around someone else's walls, and they're doing it in their own backyard rather than scaling into unfamiliar territory. For other owner-operators eyeing Gloucester County, a public parcel changing hands for a hospitality concept is worth tracking, it tells you the township is willing to deal.

Why it matters

An owner-operator building from the ground up on a former public site is a signal that a municipality will deal on real estate, worth watching for anyone eyeing that market.
